The Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence and the Brady Center to Prevent Gun Violence ("Brady," "we" or "us") have created this privacy statement to inform site visitors ("you") of our data collection, use and disclosure practices. This privacy statement applies to www.bradyunited.org, www.bradycampaign.org, www.bradycenter.org, askingsaveskids.org, www.endfamilyfire.org, www.teamenough.org and any other website that links to this privacy statement (collectively, the "Services").

Please read this privacy statement carefully. By using the Services you agree that your information may be collected, used and disclosed in the ways we describe. Please do not use the Services if you do not agree with the practices described herein.

The Information We Collect and Use

When we use the term "Personal Information," we mean information that can be used to identify you as an individual person. We may collect and use the following categories of Personal Information through your use of the Services.

  1. Personal Information You Provide to Us

    We collect the Personal Information you choose to share with us. For example, we may collect:

    • Contact information, such as your name, home address, email address and phone number, which we use to communicate with you and respond to your inquiries;
    • Donation information, including the content of any comments you choose to make when you make a donation and, in some cases, your place of employment and job title;
    • Communication preferences, including marketing preferences, which we use to manage how we engage with you;
    • Responses to donor surveys, which we use to tailor our communications to you;
    • Inquiries you make, including the content of your voice, email, text or other electronic messages, which we use to respond to your inquiries;
  2. Information About Online Donors and Purchasers

    When you make a purchase through our online store or make a donation through the Services, you are redirected to an independent third party to process the payment or donation, as applicable. That third party collects your Personal Information, using its own service providers to complete the transaction, and transmits the payment or donation to us, along with your name, contact information and other relevant details you provided in connection with the transaction, including, in some cases, your place of employment and job title. We use this information to process the transaction or account for the donation, as applicable, to communicate with and interact with you as further described below and to meet our legal obligations.

  3. Information Collected Automatically

    We use various technologies to collect other types of data that do not directly reveal your identity ("Other Information"). If we associate Other Information with Personal Information, we will treat the combined information as Personal Information in accordance with this privacy statement.

    These technologies include the following:

    Logging Functionality: As is true of most websites, we gather certain information automatically and store it in log files. This information may include IP addresses, browser type, internet service provider, referring/exit pages, operating system, date/time stamp, page views and/or clickstream data. We generally only use this data for purposes such as tracking traffic patterns on the Services, security, fraud detection and protecting our rights.

    Cookies and Other Data Collection Technologies: We and our affiliated companies, business partners and service providers use cookies and similar technologies to manage the Services and to collect and track information about you and your activities online over time and across different websites and social media channels. In addition, we use technologies that can collect and store your information to help us recognize you and enhance your experience on the Services. For example, the "remember me" function saves a cookie on your computer's browser so that you can be automatically logged-in when interacting with the Services. Cookies also help us provide state- or region-specific information and relevant news that may be of the most interest to you.

    Analytics: We use analytics providers such as Google Analytics to help us evaluate and measure the use and performance of the Services. To opt out of the aggregation and analysis of data collected about you on the Services by Google Analytics, visit https://tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout and download and install the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on.

  4. Information We Obtain from Third Party Sources

    We may collect publicly available information about you from third party sources ("Third Party Information"). If we associate Third Party Information with Personal Information, we will treat the combined information as Personal Information in accordance with this privacy statement. If you choose to make a donation through the Services, we may gather information that is publicly available about you, for example, on your public social media accounts or published on websites like Wikipedia and IMDB. We use this information to better understand our donors and inform our marketing and fundraising efforts.

Additional Uses of Personal Information

In addition to the uses described above, we may use your Personal Information for the following purposes:

  • Operating our organization;
  • Contacting you to respond to your requests or inquiries;
  • Acknowledging contributions and thanking you if you choose to make a donation;
  • Conducting and supporting additional fundraising efforts;
  • Providing you with newsletters, alerts and other information tailored to your interests;
  • Contacting you about programs or events, including fundraising events, that we believe may be of interest to you;
  • Conducting surveys, internal research and analytics to help us understand trends and improve our services;
  • Preventing, investigating or providing notice of fraud, unlawful or criminal activity or unauthorized access to or use of Personal Information, the Services or our data systems, or to meet legal obligations;
  • Investigating and resolving disputes and security issues and enforcing our terms of use and other agreements; and
  • Any other lawful, legitimate business purpose.

We may also use services provided by third parties (such as social media platforms) to serve targeted ads to you on third party platforms. We may do this by providing a hashed version of your Personal Information to the third party for matching purposes.

How We Share and Disclose Personal Information

We share your Personal Information with third parties only in ways consistent with this privacy statement.

Service Providers: We share your Personal Information with third party service providers who perform services on our behalf or for your benefit, such as web hosting and analytics. We use service providers to provide online payment processing services but we do not collect or store your payment card information, bank account numbers, or other financial data sent directly to those third party payment processors.

Donor List Exchanges: In order to increase our fundraising ability, we occasionally exchange limited Personal Information of donors with other non-profit organizations and subscription services with similar missions and values. Personal financial information is not sold to or traded with other parties as a part of these exchanges. You can opt-out if you would prefer not to participate in exchanges.

Contributor Recognition: We may disclose limited Personal Information of donors to recognize their participation in fundraising and other organizational events in annual reports and other promotional materials. Please let us know if you would prefer to remain anonymous.

Political Action Committee Donations: If you have made a donation to our political action committee ("PAC"), we may be required by law to disclose certain of your Personal Information to government regulatory bodies, including the Federal Election Commission (the "FEC"). The FEC may make some of this Personal Information publicly available.

Affiliates: We may share your information with affiliated legal entities within our family of organizations for purposes and uses that are consistent with this privacy statement. For example, if you provide Personal Information to the Brady Center to Prevent Gun Violence, that information may be shared with the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence.

Legal Process, Safety and Terms Enforcement: We may disclose your Personal Information to legal or government regulatory authorities in response to their requests for such information, for example, for standard reporting purposes or to assist in investigations. We may also disclose your Personal Information to third parties in connection with claims, disputes or litigation, when otherwise required by law, or if we determine its disclosure is necessary to protect the health and safety of you, us or others or to enforce our legal rights or contractual commitments you have made.

Business Transfers: Your Personal Information may be disclosed as part of a corporate business transaction, such as a merger, acquisition, joint venture or financing or sale of company assets, and could be transferred to a third party as one of the business assets in such a transaction. It may also be disclosed in the event of insolvency, bankruptcy or receivership. You will be notified via email and/or notice on any affected website of any change in ownership or uses of Personal Information, as well as any choices you may have regarding your Personal Information.

All above categories exclude text messaging originator opt-in data and consent; this information will not be shared with any third parties.

Your Ad Choices

We support the self-regulatory principles of the Digital Advertising Alliance ("DAA"). As described in this privacy statement, we may work with a variety of advertisers, advertising networks, advertising services and analytics companies ("Ad Partners") that use different technologies to collect data about your use of our Services (such as pages visited and ads viewed or clicked on) in order to deliver relevant advertising.

These technologies may include the placement on our Services of cookies or web beacons and other data collection technologies by these Ad Partners to track how our Services are being used, to track where you go and what you do online after you leave our Services, to link various devices you may use and to serve you more relevant ads. These ads may appear on our Services or other websites you visit.

For more information about how Ad Partners use the information collected by the technologies on our Services, and about your options not to accept cookies placed on our Services by these Ad Partners, please visit the DAA's opt-out page. The opt-outs described above are device- and browser-specific and may not work on all devices. If you choose to opt out through any of these opt-out tools, this does not mean you will cease to see advertising. Rather, the ads you see will just not be based on your interests. In addition, when you opt out using one of these methods, our Ad Partners will continue to collect information for any other purpose permitted by the DAA's rules. You can opt out of future information collection from our Services by ceasing use of the Service.

Please note that this privacy statement does not cover the practices of our Ad Partners. We do not have control over these third party technologies or the information contained therein.

Additional Website Terms

Certain websites included in the Services may contain additional disclosures related to your privacy. For example, if you choose to submit a testimonial through one of our websites, the content of your submission will be used according to the terms set out on the submission webpage as well as in the ways described in this privacy statement.

Mobile Terms and Conditions

  1. There is no fee from the Brady Campaign to receive text messages. Message and data rates may apply- this can be checked with your mobile service provider. Charges are billed and payable to your mobile service provider or deducted from your prepaid account. Consent is not a requirement for purchase.
  2. Data obtained from you in connection with this SMS service may include your mobile phone number, your carrier’s name, the date, time, and content of your messages. We may use this information to contact you and provide the services you request from us. Alerts sent via SMS may not be delivered if the mobile phone is not in range of a transmission site, or if sufficient network capacity is not available at a particular time. Even within a coverage area, factors beyond the control of the wireless operator may interfere with message delivery, including the customer’s equipment, terrain, proximity to buildings, foliage, and weather. Wireless operators do not guarantee message delivery and will not be held liable for delayed or undelivered messages.

  4. We will not be liable for any delays in the receipt of any SMS message as delivery is subject to effective transmission from your network operator.
  5. By subscribing to the Brady Campaign mobile alerts, the user consents to receive automated text messages to work towards a solution to the epidemic of gun violence. Recurring messages. Message & data rates may apply.

Children's Privacy

Our Services are not directed to, and we do not intend to or knowingly collect or solicit Personal Information online from children under the age of 13. We encourage parents or guardians to participate in and monitor their children's online activity. If a child under 13 has provided Personal Information to us, we encourage the child's parent or guardian to contact us through the contact information provided below to request that we remove the information from our systems. If you are under the age of 13, do not provide us with any Personal Information.

How to Access or Update Your Information

You may review your Personal Information that is readily accessible through our Services. Upon request, we will tell you what information we hold about you and correct or delete any incorrect information. We will also make reasonable efforts to delete your information if you ask us to do so, unless we are otherwise required to keep it.

Data Retention

We will retain your Personal Information for as long as it is reasonably useful for our mission and organizational effectiveness. We will retain and use your Personal Information as necessary to comply with our legal and regulatory obligations or data retention policies.

Links to Other Websites

The Services may include links to websites operated by other third party organizations and features like buttons and widgets hosted by other companies (for example, the Twitter "Tweet" button). These features may collect your IP address, which page you are visiting on our Service and may set a cookie to enable the feature to function properly. This privacy statement does not apply to, and we are not responsible for the content, privacy policies or data practices of third parties that collect your information. We may change this privacy statement from time to time in our sole discretion. Any and all changes will be reflected on this page and we will update the effective date at the top of this page. Material changes may also be announced in communications with our users and community.
