URGENT Tell Gov. Newsom To Sign AB 2847!

9/17/2020

Hi,

My name is Mattie Scott and I am the president of Brady California. That's me in the black t-shirt with a photo of my son, George Scott. He was only 24 years old when he was shot and killed in July 1996. I carry this photo of him everywhere I go because 26 years later, his case remains unsolved.

George isn't alone. There are over 2,000 unsolved homicide cases in San Francisco, leaving countless families just like mine without any closure or answers. But I'm here to tell you about a solution that is on Gov. Gavin Newsom's desk for his signature right now.

Will you please urge Gov. Newsom to help families like mine and sign AB 2847 into law?

Simply click "Have Comment", enter your information, select the issue number (AB02847), select continue, and then leave a comment telling Gov. Newsom to sign!

AB 2847 would ensure that new model handguns introduced in California incorporate microstamping technology, which will enable more gun crimes to be solved. This vital technology would revolutionize law enforcement's ability to identify shooters — like the one who killed George — apprehend them before they do more harm, and hold them accountable.

I've dedicated my life to preventing gun violence ever since George was murdered. In fact, I've been fighting alongside Brady to pass a bill like AB 2847 for years now. While microstamping new-model handguns has been the law of the land in California for more than 10 years, the gun industry has boycotted it every step of the way and blocked its implementation. But the boycotting ends now. Now that this life-saving legislation is headed to the Governor’s desk, we need to make sure he signs this bill into law. Please, leave a comment now!

We are near the finish line. For George, my family, and countless others in California, let's pass this vital legislation once and for all!
