California gun law on microstamping can help solve crimes. Industry must accept it

San Francisco Chronicle- For years, the gun industry has been quick to adopt new technology that makes firearms more deadly. It has, however, stubbornly refused to adopt even the simplest technology to make guns safer. We encourage Gov. Gavin Newsom to sign into law California’s new microstamping bill, which incentivizes the industry to do the right thing. It’s time for gun manufacturers to show they’re serious about being part of the solution to gun violence in America. By signing the bill into law, the governor can push the industry in the right direction.

Over the last decade, more than 18,000 Californians were murdered, and more than one in three of those murders remain unsolved. Mourning families and friends of the victims of these unsolved murders must endure the added burden of knowing justice has not been served. Perpetrators remain free to murder with impunity, and cycles of retaliatory violence devastate, especially in Black and Brown communities.
