It’s the law in California and it’s revolutionary.
New-model handguns are required to be designed and equipped with “microstamps,” which provide vital data to allow investigators to match evidence to guns used in crimes.
For years now, the gun industry has effectively boycotted California’s microstamping law, not wanting to pay the costs of instituting reforms. AB 2847 would push the gun industry to comply with the microstamping requirement and limit the availability of older model handguns that do not meet the existing safety standards.
This technology is truly revolutionary. It helps law enforcement identify shooters and gun traffickers, apprehend them before they do more harm, and hold them accountable.
